Anthony Hamilton Puts The Work On Jodeci's "Freek'n You" Live In Session

Lenny Kravitz, Grace Jones, Lauryn Hill, Lion Babe, Thundercat, SZA & More Rock The Afropunk Festival 2015 in Brooklyn, NY.

Anthony Hamilton recently returned from D'Angelo's Australian run of shows to serenade us with that raspy squall, covering fellow Charlotte, North Carolina and '90s r&b supergroup Jodeci's "Freek'n You." Stripped bare of its crooning voice-box, Hamilton and the fellas took this one to the acoustic side of things. Nothing overly earnest or ambitious, just a tried and true treatment of a between-the-sheets classic that'll immediately have you asking two questions. First, where the hell has Jodeci been all these years? And second, why hasn't the former Soultronic made an entire album of these joints? The world will likely never know, but you can at least get a taste of what the piece might have been like by watching Anthony Hamilton croon supreme on a minimal, piano-driven rework of Jodeci's "Freek'n You" below. If you need your seasonal soul fix, pick up a copy of his Home For The Holidays LP on iTunes. Oh, and to answer that first question, Jodeci actually performed together for the first time in almost ten years at this past weekend's Soul Train Awards. So if the prospect of a reunion has been plaguing you all these years, consider your prayers answered.
