‘The Almanac of Rap’ Returns for Season 4
The two-time Webby Award-winning Okayplayer podcast returns Feb. 26 with a new slate of heavyweights and deeper conversation rooted in hip-hop history.
The Almanac of Rap is back.
Some conversations hit differently when they’re rooted in music and culture. That’s what has made Okayplayer’s two-time Webby Award-winning podcast a standout since day one. Hosted by Tanya Morgan rapper, DJ and producer Donwill, the series returns for Season 4 on Thursday, Feb. 26, continuing his ongoing mission of documenting hip-hop from all eras, straight from the source.
These aren’t surface-level dialogues. Donwill approaches each episode with lived experience and curiosity, carving out a space for legends, unsung heroes and rising rhymers to unpack the stories behind the stories — the pivots, overlooked moments and hard lessons that don’t always make it into traditional press interviews or podcast clips.
Season 4 is a reflection of that range.
This season’s guests includes Bun B, Raekwon, Havoc, 9th Wonder & Reuben Vincent, LaRussell, Cupid, Mr. DJ and Grafh, alongside actor-singer Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight, I’m a Virgo). The talent lineup underscores the podcast’s broader lens — hip-hop as more than music, but a cultural ecosystem.
Each episode kicks off with “The Ballistics,” a little-known fact or provocative take that frames the conversation. Recurring segments such as “The Big Playback” revisit underappreciated songs, while “Type Beats” and “The Do-Over” invite guests to recollect key moments in their careers.
In 2023, The Almanac of Rap won a Webby Award for Best Music Podcast. In 2025, it was honored again for Experimental Innovation — proving that the series continues to evolve while staying rooted in hip-hop’s storytelling tradition.
Season 4 premieres February 26 and airs weekly on Thursdays, alternating between audio/video and audio-only episodes.
