When The Robert Glasper Experiment released Black Radio 2 with the track “I Stand Alone” featuring Common and Patrick Stump of Fallout Boy, the song served as a perfect anthem for non-conformity. Today, in the wake of current events involving police brutality and heightened social awareness, the beautifully moody, piano-driven song has taken on a deeper and broader meaning for the musician.
Glasper tells Okayplayer:
“The premise is asking ‘what do you stand for?’ and I want to include as many clips for as many different things as possible. Whether it’s standing alone in your artistry or what makes you unique, or in light of what's going on with brutality, bullying, social injustice, cancer awareness -- any kind of battle. Anything you do that you want to stand up for.”
Glasper is inviting fans to be part of the movement via a campaign that could find you in the “I Stand Alone” music video. Just record a 10-second or shorter clip stating: “My name is ___ and I stand alone because___,” then share it via email to istandalone.br2@gmail.com.
You can also visit the official campaign page to watch a short video invitation from Glasper and get instructions on how to upload your video using Hightail or Dropbox.
Black Radio 2 is available now on iTunes.
