Redd Foxx Audio Documentary To Premiere On SiriusXM

SiriusXM has announced the premiere of a new audio documentary on the legendary comedian Redd Foxx.

Titled Redd Foxx: We've Come to Join You, the audio documentary will chronicle the life and legacy of Foxx: from his infamous comedy records to his starring role on the television series Sanford and Son. The special will also include personal stories from those who knew him best.

Timed to the 25 year anniversary of Foxx's passing, the documentary will provide a look into the life of the comedian that hasn't really been offered before.

Fellow comedian Eddie Griffin; comedian and writer on Sanford and Son, Paul Mooney; his sister-in-law Linda Griner; longtime friend and former co-star Della Reese-Lett (who was on set with Foxx during his heart attack); producer and writer on The Redd Foxx Comedy Hour, Bob Einstein; and many others close to Foxx. The documentary will also include rarely heard stand-up from the late icon.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised on Chicago's South Side, Foxx rose to prominence as a comedian through his raunchy nightclub performances throughout the 1950s, '60s and '70s. Through that, he ended up getting a long term contract with Dootone Records, where he released a series of comedy albums that ultimately became cult favorites.

He then went to achieve mainstream success through Sanford and Son, where he played the role of Fred Sanford. The series became notable for its racial humor and overt prejudices, which redefined the genre of black sitcoms. The show was broadcasted for six seasons, and came to an end in 1977.

Foxx continued to work up until his death in 1991, where he suffered a heart attack during rehearsals for The Royal Family. He died at the age of 68.

As a comedian that influenced people such as Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx and Richard Pryor, Foxx is deserving of a documentary such as this, told by people that worked with him and understand his everlasting legacy.

Redd Foxx: We've Come to Join You will debut exclusively on SiriusXM's Foxxhole Channel 96 on October 11 at 8:00 pm ET, and will re-air multiple times throughout the week.
