Following the cancellation of an Urban Myths episode that featured Joseph Fiennes portraying Michael Jackson, Lifetime has now announced that it is creating a movie based on the iconic pop star.

Tentatively titled Michael Jackson: Searching for Neverland, the film will focus on the final years of the artist's life as it is told from the perspective of his trusted bodyguard, Bill Whitefield.

Jackson will be portrayed by Navi (the number one Michael Jackson tribute artist), while Whitefield will be played by Chad L. Coleman.

Inspired by the book Remember the Time: Protecting Michael Jackson in His Final Days, Searching for Neverland is being spearheaded by executive producer Suzanne de Passe, who worked with Jackson and the Jackson 5 during her time as a creative assistant to Motown founder Berry Gordy.

Production for the project will begin next month in Los Angeles, with the movie expected to premiere some time before the end of the year.

Earlier today came the cancellation of the Urban Myths episode with Fiennes' portrayal of Jackson. The episode centered on the artist's fabled cross country adventure from New York to Los Angeles with Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando. However, the episode ended up being cancelled after Jackson's daughter Paris spoke out against the portrayal of her father by Fiennes.

"I'm so incredibly offended by it, as I'm sure plenty of people are as well, and it honestly makes me want to vomit," Paris tweeted in response to another account that had asked for her thoughts on the character casting. "It angers me to see how obviously intentional it was for them to be this insulting, not just towards my father, but my godmother Liz as well. Where is the respect? They worked through blood sweat and tears for ages to create such profound and remarkable legacies. Shameful portrayal."

Well, hopefully Searching for Neverland does Jackson justice.
