Kindness - "This Is Not About Us"
Kindness (AKA Adam Bainbridge) has been wooing us with those airy croons on lo-fi funk numbers for a minute now and his latest offering "This Is Not About Us" isn't trying to buck that anytime soon. What we have here is a bit of a departure from the feathery, purple-powered frequencies of prior cuts, opting for a break-heavy joint that shows the tuff-ness of Kindness. Bainbridge puts layers of luscious falsettos over a heavily phased Apache-style chop that recalls the infectious hooks of '90s r&b without all the cornball embellishments.
A quick follow-up to his Kelela and Ade assisted single "World Restart" earlier this month and that Prince-perfect flip of Blood Orange's "Uncle ACE," the track provides us with yet another taste of his forthcoming Otherness LP, which is slated for an October 14th release on Female Energy Records/Mom + Pop. Features from K, Robyn and potentially a contribution or two from fellow funkateer Dev Hynes are to be expected. We'll have more on the record as details unfold, but you can stream "This Is Not About Us" below and if your ears are still pleased preorder the Otherness LP via iTunes today.
