Kanye West is inching closer and closer to his White House takeover. At the tail end of his acceptance speech at the VMAs, West made a bold announcement for his candidacy in the 2020 election, pitting him squarely against a certain faux-haired candidate in this year’s race for the title of “who can say the most ridiculous shit loudest.” And while many assumed the statement to be just another page in the Yeezy PR book, it appears the campaign for West in 2020 is off to a strong start, with even the current POTUS offering him some advice on how to handle the race and drawing some uncanny parallels between the two Chicagoans.
This weekend Kanye graced a typically flat DNC fundraiser at The Warfield in San Francisco with a high-voltage, nearly hour-long performance that spanned the entirety of his career, commencing with triumphant anthems “Power” and “Amazing,” then taking it back to 808s & Heartbreaks with “Love Lockdown,” before jumping back up to 2010 with “Runaway” and then proceeding with an onslaught of his most cherished selections. All of this happen, of course, in standard Yeezus form; fashionable stage design, a legion of stoic bodies backing, but with an MPC and vocoder joining him onstage as opposed to a megalithic pyramid.
