Jesse Boykins III Shares New Single "Go For Long," Prod. By Soulection's Abjo

R&B shapeshifter Jesse Boykins III has once again joined forces with Soulection producer Abjo, firing off the brief but eminently lovely new single "Go For Long." With a note-quite-hi-fi drum track that crackles beneath lush keyboards, the track comes across as a mellowed-out response to "Plain," the uptempo house highlight from Boykins's excellent 2014 LP Love Apparatus. Boykins digs into memories of shared beginnings--glistening December days and breakfasts for two--watching them fade into the rear view mirror as he resolves to get his lost lover back. "I won't let you go for long" tells us all we need to know; we've all been there.

At the opening and close of "Go For Long," we hear Boykins speaking through static, at first mockingly telling us "It's lit" and then finally singing a few strains of "Hold On We're Going Home." Are these sarcastic winks at the hollowed-out lines that pass for modern loving expressions? Maybe so. In a statement to Hypetrak (who premiered the "Go For Long"), the vocalist asserted that real, true love demands "realization that the bond between two people need space and time. Everything looks better than what we have so go and find out that what we have is better than everything else." Abjo and Jesse Boykins III were last heard working in tandem on the Love Apparatus bonus track "Molly's Refuge", and now with this new offering, it's clear that their affinity is anything but a fluke. Listen to "Go For Long" below.
