"I'm Not Losing No Sleep" - Ice Cube On NWA Manager Jerry Heller's Death

21 years ago, NWA was dealt its final, most irreparable blow when founding member Eazy E was laid to rest after a bout with HIV. Their story was immortalized last summer in the release of Straight Outta Compton, detailing the tumultuous relationship between the band and manager Jerry Heller, who passed away late last week. Now Ice Cube, who famously walked away from NWA citing contract disputes, has addressed his former manager's death during a recent interview with Detroit radio station Hot 107.5, weighing in with:

I didn’t have no emotions, you know. I’m just glad I’m with my brothers today. I’m glad I’m with DJ Yella. I’m glad I’m with MC Ren today, and it’s only right. So, you know, I ain’t gon’ pop no champagne, but I ain’t gon’ shed no tears either. It is what it is, you know. We come here to pass, and he’s outta here, so you know. Like I said, I’m not losing no sleep over that one.

The callousness should hardly come as a surprise to studied fans based on their embattled history, especially with Heller having filed suit for $110 million in damages after seeing Straight Outta Compton. As far as we know, nothing came of the suit before his passing. You can watch Ice Cube's brief and predictably cold address in the video below.
