Back in 2013, during the Magna Carta… Holy Grail era, people with sharp eyes noticed something: Jay-Z dropped the hyphen from his name. He started going by Jay Z.
Four years later, and the hyphen is back. Pitchfork reached out to representatives of Hov, and they confirmed that Jay will now be JAY-Z. Yes, not only is the hyphen back, but the name is in all caps.
If you know anything about Hov, you know that his name has gone through a couple of changes throughout his career. When JAY released Reasonable Doubt, in 1996, he had an umlaut and a hyphen in his name. By the time In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 dropped, the following year, Hov got rid of the umlaut and left the hyphen.
