El-P has come to defend friend and Run The Jewels rap partner Killer Mike following his controversial interview with the National Rifle Association (NRA).

In two statements posted on Twitter, El-P discussed his support for the March of Our Lives events that took place across the country, referring to it as "a very noble campaign that I actually support." He then turned his attention to Killer Mike, stating that "despite our many differences (and I promise you they are vast and often hotly debated)" "I can not and will not ever turn my back on this man."

"...he stumbles and he makes bad decisions sometimes and he doesn't always get his message across or even protect himself," El-P continued. "...So while I'm bummed at the way this unfolded, I will always f**k with him."

Late last week, an interview Killer Mike did with NRA TV host and guns rights activist Colion Noir was put online. During the conversation the rapper spoke on his support of gun ownership.

"You can't continue to be the lackey," referring to the left-leaning individuals who espouse anti-gun viewpoints. "You're a lackey of the progressive movement, because you've never disagreed with the people who tell you what to do."

The rapper and activist faced backlash on social media not necessarily for his remarks, but for speaking with the NRA who has had a questionable history with black people. The organization failed to speak out against the wrongful shooting of Philando Castile, who was a licensed gun owner.
