Comic legend and You People star Eddie Murphy recently spoke to Complex about plans for a new comedy special.

Eddie Murphy will soon return to stand-up. In a recent interview with Complex, the recent Cecil B. DeMille Award recipient and You People star talked about his latest Netflix feature and the potential for an upcoming stand-up show.

“I do want to do stand-up again,” he said. “A lot of the stuff that was in my phone, it’s a whole different world since the pandemic and we got a new president, it’s just a different world. So it was a lot of stuff that was in my phone, that it’s old stuff now.”

Murphy then teased that he’s currently filming a movie, while he’s also in talks for two additional films. But the comic hasn’t given up on stand-up despite his old material; he plans on combining “music and stand-up” into a future live show.

“But my show won’t just be a stand-up show; my show will be music and stand-up,” he said. “Because I can’t just get on the stage and just do jokes because I have all this other stuff now. I’m thinking about how to put together a live show that has everything.”

According to a TMZ report in 2019, Murphy signed on to a Netflix deal for his first stand-up special in 30 years. With the deal rumored to be in the $70 million range, Murphy’s last stand-up comedy film was 1987’s Raw. In 2019, the Brooklyn native joined the Netflix roster with biographical comedy film, Dolemite Is My Name, where he portrayed 1970s filmmaker, actor, comedian and artist Rudy Ray Moore.

Murphy’s second Netflix film You People, co-starring Jonah Hill, Lauren London, Nia Long, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny, premieres on Friday, January 27.
