"A Thrilling Adventure": The First Reactions to 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' Are Here

With Doctor Strange 2 due to amass $150 million in its opening weekend beginning Thursday night, critics reviews for the film have arrived.

Early reviews for Doctor Strange 2 – or full title Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – have landed. On Monday night, the film held its red carpet premiere in Los Angeles, with appearances from main stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen.

With the Sam Raimi-directed film set to premiere worldwide this Friday, reactions to the Doctor Strange have been glowing, with early audiences praising the film's trippy visuals and for arguably being the scariest MCU feature to date.

"This might be the funkiest, most peculiar installment of the MCU, mixing horror and knowingly schlocky B-movie pleasures alongside the usual amounts of spectacle and fan service," wrote Tim Griersonof Screen Daily.

Olsen, who portrays Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch also received acclaim for her performance and shifting from Disney+ series WandaVision to the Doctor Strange sequel.

"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the weirdest, grossest Marvel movie yet," wrote Germain Lussier of Gizmodo. It’s wildly disjointed, partially on purpose, so it doesn’t always work but the horror, and especially Wanda, work incredibly well. Plus wow. What huge surprises."

While giving props to Cumberbatch and Olsen, Courtney Howard of Variety also gave props to MCU newbie Xochitl Gomez for her portrayal of America Chavez.

Doctor Strange 2 premieres worldwide on Friday, May 6th. Read more reactions to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness below:
