Whether you were digging crates or merely alive and feeling the vibe of the '90s, you knew damn well who Organized Noize was, if not by name then at the very least, by sound. ON brought a very distinct flavor to the ATL's full-bloom scene, lacing cuts from Outkast, Goodie Mob and later TLC with the type of low-down dirty fawnk that would make James Brown smile in his grave. But whatever happened to the ATLien trio? Luckily we weren't the only ones who were curious, as Frannie Kelley & Ali Shaheed Muhammad recently took a trip down to Stankonia to do a little recon work on the Dungeon Family legends to see and hear precisely what they've been up to, getting a feel for the environment in which some of their favorite tracks were cut in a room filled with their adoring supporters, including Big Boi, Backbone and Mr. DJ, as well as a legion of fellow funkateers. It's a long one, but there's a whole lot to pick up in this almost two-hour segment. So much, in fact, that I'm still getting through it.
