Yung Baby Tate's “I Am” is a lesson in self-prophesying as the lyrics skew in the realm of encouragement and manifestation. 

You might have first heard Yung Baby Tate’s “I Am” on TikTok, thanks to the viral #IAmChallenge. On Friday, the talented female singer/songwriter who also raps dropped the video for the cut featuring an appearance from Flo Milli. 

The Atlanta artist is not a novice by any means, Tate thrives when she’s serving up girl power anthems and also tracks that are sensual, and tap into her sexuality. But, “I Am” is a lesson in self-prophesying as the lyrics skew in the realm of encouragement and manifestation. 

For the #IAmChallenge, mainly women are seen rapping: “I am healthy, I am wealthy, I am rich, I am that bitch/I am gonna go get that bag and I am not gonna take your shit/I am protected, well respected, I'm a queen, I'm a dream/I do what I wanna do and I'm who I wanna be.” Kamala Harris, Yara Shahidi, Chlöe Bailey and, countless others have released videos featuring the catchy lyrics. 

The creative visual is a fitting match for the track as it features Tate starting the clip looking directly into a mirror rapping the opening lines of the track. What follows is a psychedelic hodgepodge: a sleepover where stunning Black women in pajamas are dancing, Instagram-ready eye candy appears alongside Tate and Flo Milli, and another scene where Tate is the center of a choreographed crew of dancers. 

Before the track went viral, Yung Baby Tate admitted in an interview with us that “I Am” was first dreamed up outside the studio. She initially started writing it out and then as she was writing she felt it could actually be a cool song. On this process, she said, “I want people to say this. Kind of in a chant. So they can say it to themselves enough times, that it just starts to make sense and manifest into their lives.”
