Yesterday, Queen E. Badu celebrated her 46th lap around the sun. And as a present to herself, as well as the legion, the pioneer through herself a little birthday bash in the most Badu way possible, treating her hometown to a cosmic throwdown, live and direct from the mothership. The performance and its preparations were live-streamed late last night as Badu took the stage, cutting up backstage clips with the Badu crew’s hallmark homebase transmissions; daughters Puma and Mars wishing Mama Bear a good one, Badu herself making a few appearances as well.
Then around the 30:00 mark, Badu takes the stage, warmly welcoming her audience with a rendition of “Hello,” before launching into her set. You can watch that down until later this evening. Let’s hope the full performance makes way before the clip leaves the web. And while this is just the latest evolution of Badu, last week the singer shared a clip of herself performing the era-defining classic “On & On” at her very first Brooklyn open-mic in 1995, which is a must-watch for any and all fans. Jump back to catch your day’s dose of nostalgia and keeps your eyes on us for her next transmission.
