During their appearance on Sway Calloway‘s Sway in the Morning, the group said that new album is named Hive Mind and will be out July 20, according to The FADER.

“If you google what ‘hive mind’ means, it’s basically a collective ego, a collective mind. You know, when people are together they have a collective mindset. And I think when we’re together we all have a common goal, and we move in the same direction,” Matt Martians said of the title.

“I think it’s just sharpened. If Ego Death was a pencil, it was like a good pencil…It was a bit dull, but I’d say this pencil’s really sharp, and we’re gonna draw nice,” Steve Lacy added.

Discussion of the new album begins around the 8:51 mark.

Hive Mind will be the band’s first new album in three years. In 2015, the Internet released the Grammy-nominated Ego Death, which featured appearances from Kaytranada, Tyler, the Creator, Vic Mensa, Janelle Monáe, and others. Following the release of the album, the members embarked on their own solo projects: Syd‘s Fin; Matt Martians’ The Drum Chord Theory; and Steve Lacy’s Steve Lacy’s Demo. Bassist and producer Patrick Paige II‘s debut solo album — titled Letters of Irrelevance — is out today.
