Watch Jadakiss Tell the Story of Styles P Throwing a Chair At Diddy

The incident sparked The LOX’s release from Bad Boy Records.

Jadakiss recently sat down with HipHopDX’s Jeremy Hecht for an exclusive interview. The two discussed Jada’s favorite MCs of the newer generation, as well as stories from their heyday. He spoke on Diddy changing the group’s name from Warlocks to The LOX. More importantly, he told the story of what led to the group’s release from their Bad Boy contract.

Hecht acknowledged the storied history of friction between the two parties. The group’s rugged aesthetic obviously clashed with Bad Boy’s infamous shiny suit aesthetic. Despite the success of their Bad Boy debut Money, Power & Respect, the group moved to Ruff Ryders by 2000. There they released their sophomore effort, We Are the Streets. The album peaked at number five on the Billboard 200, and number two on the United States R&B charts.

Hecht asked Jada if he remembered the particular moment he realized they needed to leave the label. “It was probably after the argument with Diddy when Styles threw the chair at Puff,” he said, visibly amused. “I ain’t sure, but that was probably the last straw for that,” he continued. “Prior to that, there were conversations amongst the group. But after that incident, that’s when we decided to part ways.”

The Lox went on to release a third album, Filthy America…It’s Beautiful through D-Block and Roc Nation. Jadakiss plans to release his first album in five years, Ignatius, on February 28.
