Watch Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine Reminisce on the Making of the Classic '2001' Album

Source: Apple

In honor of 2001's 20th anniversary, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine discussed the creative process behind the album for Apple Music.

Twenty years ago, Dr. Dre released 2001, the follow-up to his classic debut The Chronic. The sophomore album's release came after Dre's departure from Death Row Records. Apple Music brought Dre and Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine together to discuss the making of the album.

After breakups with N.W.A. and then Death Row, Dre found himself feeling isolated once more.  "All of a sudden, I'm on my own again and I have to go find artists and musicians to work with," Dre says. "Fortunately for me, I'd done it before when I separated myself from Eazy[-E] and Jerry Heller. I knew what the feeling of starting over feels like. But the second time, I had Jimmy."

Additionally, Dre reminisces on meeting Eminem for the first time. 2001 was his first solo album effort since the two joined forces in 1998. He goes on to reveals that Eminem originally wrote "Forgot About Dre" for Dre and Snoop Dogg.
