Fresh off the release of his TapeCookies2 project, Stones Throw has welcomed DJ Harrison to the storied squad. The Richmond-native multi-instrumentalist — who has garnered cult-level praise from some of the most respected music minds (Questlove – approved,) — a roster rich with new genre-destroying signees, including Gabriel Garzon-Montano, Frankie Reyes, Sudan Archives and more.
“Rule The World,” a wispy track from his Rhythm King explorations of smokey Sly soul, Slyish, is built around a deceptively simple guitar-flick wholly reminiscent of the pioneer, with woozy, muffled tin-can vocals thickening the salute. Today, Harrison shares a sunny homebody clip for the 2016 standout — filmed by Ross Harris — short, sweet and glowingly-warm as the song it self. Watch that below. If you’ve yet to get acquainted with DJ Harrison, his Bandcamp page is a good place to start. Pick up a copy of Slyish on iTunes today and hold tight for his next transmission. Brooklyn residents can catch him playing keys for Butcher Brown at Brooklyn Bowl on April 18th and 20th. He’ll perform a solo set at Stones Throw’s SXSW showcase on March 18th.
