Destiny Child's "Say My Name" Soundtracks First Trailer For Jordan Peele's 'Candyman' Remake

The Jordan Peele-produced Candyman is coming out in June.

Jordan Peele has released the first trailer forCandyman, the remake of the 1992 horror classic.  In the trailer, you see that the movie is going to stay somewhat faithful to the original: if you say the name Candyman five times while staring in a mirror the supernatural figure will come and kill you.

There is one really cool feature in this trailer: the background music is a eerie version of Destiny Child's "Say My Name" song. (Very on the nose but effective.) It's similar to what Jordan Peele did with Luniz's "I Got 5 on It."

The movie, which has been described as a “spiritual sequel” to the original, will take place at the now-gentrified section of Chicago where the Cabrini-Green housing projects once stood, which was the setting of the original film.

The movie stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett. Tony Todd, who played Candyman in the original movie, will also make an appearance.

Over the years, Todd has openly talked about the need for a new Candyman movie. In 2018, when it was rumored that Peele was interested in taking on the project, he spoke positively about the Get Out-Director being involved:

“As long as it’s done well, and Jordan is an intelligent screenwriter. I know he would probably do his very best,” Todd added. “It’s an iconic character that has withstood the test of time.”

The movie is being produced by Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw productions and being directed by Nia DaCosta. Peele is writing the script alongside Win Rosenfeld and DaCosta. Candyman will be released on June 12th 2020.
