Best Music Videos Of The Week: J. Cole, Lucky Daye, Givēon & More

The best videos of the week include selections from J.Cole, Benny The Butcher, CupcaKKe, Mozzy, and more.

It’s Friday so you know that means it’s that time where we roll out the top videos that arrived over the course of the past week.

J. Cole returns and flips Drake’s new song “Pipe Down” into his own freestyle. For “Heaven’s EP” the rapper divulges that he knows he comes third when compared to Drake and Kendrick Lamar (interesting). The video which is shot over the course of a quick trip to Vegas is simple and it works. For most of it, he raps and lounges in a private jet, possibly a hotel room, and overall we get the feeling that he’s not retiring after all.

Next up is Lucky Daye’s “Over.” It appears the singer is entering a new era of his artistry post Painted and we’re here for it, in fact, we’re relishing in it. For the visual directed by Pulse Films and styled by the talent Alexander Julian, Daye for the first time is wearing pieces that reflect his unique capabilities. The clip is shot like a short film and it stars Jordyn Woods. Many of the close shots depict Lucky as a conflicted artist who can’t seem to make the time for what he truly wants (but it’s also unclear if he wants fame and love simultaneously).

Then there’s Givēon, who finally returns to drop a new single alongside a video directed by Sophia Nahli Allison. “For Tonight” is fitting given his track record for sharing emotional bops, it’s a gorgeous listen. For those who question why R&B singers don’t sing in the rain anymore in videos, this might be for you. In the cinematic visual, he spends time with a beau, but he also is alone reflecting on his addiction to being with her. Here’s what the Long Beach-bred singer says about the single: This is the story of a taboo vice that I just can’t seem to stop indulging in.” Enough said.

CupcaKKe’s “Marge Simpson” arrived randomly at the end of the week, but we’re into it. She plays the cartoon character for a bit in the beginning of the clip, but for the majority of the video, she’s herself. A lot of the video capitalizes on her innate ability to give off cockiness with hints of a flashy lifestyle. Money, shopping trips, and a lavish mansion also make up a significant portions of the clip.
