Best Music Videos Of The Week: Common, Meek Mill, Kali Uchis & More

The best videos of the week include selections from Meek Mill, Asiahn, Mahalia, Burna Boy, and more.

We’ve returned to roll out our selections for the best videos we enjoyed this week.

Common’s “When We Move” featuring Black Thought and Seun Kuti is a love story to Black culture. It’s filled with titans like Stokely Carmichael and Fela Kuti in addition to countless others. The funky beat meshes well with the ‘70s-inspired party that’s taking place throughout the visual. The single is moving and the video does an excellent job of portraying the messages Common portrays through his lyrics.

Meek Mill’s “Intro (Hate On Me)” is the first track on his new album Expensive Pain, it’s also a thorough song. In the accompanying music video, he’s back to stake his claim as one of the most explosive lyricists to hit the rap game in recent years. We’re thinking he’s in the streets of Philly for a bit of the clip. But, just when you get comfortable watching him he’s on a private charter and he lands in England where he’s living it up in clubs and at a private dinner. Then viewers get a glimpse of him as a battle rapper years ago (that’s our favorite part).

Kali Uchis also serves up a video for “fue mejor” with SZA. In its entirety, it tells both women’s perspectives of the narrative of the track. Both of their experiences are seen as valid and are brought to life throughout the clip. We see Kali with Don Toliver attempting to forget about a love lost, and then SZA pops up and the two artists share a moment. The red undertones used for much of the video give off an air lust, desire, and coveted sensuality.

Asiahn’s video for “Fall Back” is shot similarly to a short film and there’s a story here that is all too familiar: when someone you’re seeing comes on way too strong. The singer/songwriter lets her beau down gently and paints a picture of how the woman overwhelmed her. The intimate shots and first-person perspective are what drew us in.

Tiny mention here for Eli Derby, LVRN’s newest signee. “Gaslight” his new single is a bop and the video he’s dropped for it is giving us memories of Chris Brown’s debut self-titled album.
