Best Hip-Hop Videos To Drop Last Week: Nicki Minaj, JID, GloRilla & More

Nicki Minaj, Latto, GloRilla shared videos last week that further prove women have the rap game in a chokehold.

Nicki Minaj recently released a video for her heavily streamed single “Super Freaky Girl.”

Latto‘s “It’s Givin” video featured an assortment of celebrities, but her star power in it is undeniable.

GloRilla – “Blessed”

We’ve been anxious to see what GloRilla would release after her breakout moment with “F.N.F. (Let’s Go).” Her latest is “Blessed,” an energetic single featuring Yo Gotti. It’s a catchy track with an infectious single that highlights her raspy voice. For the visual, most of the focus is on GloRilla.

Nicki Minaj – “Super Freaky Girl”

Joseph Kahn directs Nicki Minaj’s new music for “Super Freaky Girl” which features an interpolation of Rick James’ smash hit “Super Freak.” Off bat, you might’ve not expected to see a Rick James moment in the visual, but Nicki pays homage to the singer by dressing up as him. The video also features her taking her Barbie obsession to new heights, she’s living in a bubblegum pink suburban neighborhood and has found her Ken in Canadian actor Alexander Ludwig.

Latto – “It’s Givin”

It features appearances from Ella Mai, Halle and Chlöe Bailey, Flo Milli, Angie Martinez, Nadeska Alexis, Tiffany “New York” Pollard, Angela Simmons, and more. Zerina Akers spearheaded costume design for Latto in this visual who is known for her work with Beyoncé. The representation of women of different sizes was an excellent addition to the video directed by Chandler Lass.

JID – “Kody Blu 31”

JID‘s “Kody Blu 31” also receives a music video. The track which is a standout appeared on his new album The Forever Story. He flips between singing and rapping in the video. An expansive story is told throughout it. Family takes precedence in the video which also presents itself as a short film. Raven B. Varona who is a talented celebrity portrait photographer directs.

Smino – “24-8”

At the tail end of last week, Smino dropped off a new reflective song titled “24-8.” It’s a surprise release, but it feels like he released it in preparation for a mixtape or album. Accompanying the track is an intimately shot visual by The Film Lord.
