Lennox dropped the track at midnight and previously teased the clip right before it was unveiled. For the past few months, she’s been doing pop-up appearances and small shows in major cities. Recently, she actually shared the track at a show at Prospect Park during the BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival.
The visual is stunning, and in it, Dreamville’s sole female signee was clearly given a budget to bring her vision for the video to life. Directed and lensed by Chandler Lass, a female director, the video centers on soul stars of the past including Diana Ross and Donna Summer. Since both of these talents were known for their commanding presence, it doesn’t surprise us that Ari leans into this throughout the visual. It’s no small feat to channel both of these women, but Lennox does it graciously.
Also, there’s another scene that sticks out, it appears to be ‘00s-inspired and it features mainly silver pieces and accessories. Our guess is that Lennox’s costume designers for the clip, Chloe & Chenelle Delgadillo mood boarded with icons of the ‘00s like Destiny’s Child. This duo has been gaining traction for contributing to Olivia Rodrigo’s big style moments as of recent.
“Pressure” is a joint collaboration between Lennox, Bryan Michael Cox (yes), Jermaine Dupri and, Johntá Austin. It was written by Ari, Anthony Parrino and Jai’Len Josey. In the coming months, Lennox will be performing at H.E.R.’s Lights On Festival at Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Center.
In case it wasn’t clear, we’re really into this new chapter for the singer/songwriter. She’s been spotted in the studio with everyone from Missy Elliott to Babyface and J. White Did It. We’re hoping this means an album is arriving before the year ends.
