Amorphous Dissects His Creative Upbringing In New Apple Music Short [Premiere]

In Apple Music’s new short film celebrating their latest Up Next Artist, Amorphous dissects his life as a youngster and shares the musical influences that have shaped him into who he is today.

Amorphous has been steadily garnering traction in his own way over the past few years. Also known as Jimir Reece Davis, the producer and filmmaker has been an avid music lover ever since he was a child.

Today, alongside the release of his debut EP, Things Take Shape, Apple Music announces Amorphous as their latest artist in their Up Next series. You might remember on Thanksgiving last year when a viral video of the rising talent hit the Internet. He became an overnight sensation after sharing a clip of a mash-up featuring Rihanna’s “Kiss It Better” and Luther Vandross’ “Never Too Much.”

Directly following the video’s blow-up he received support and calls from artists including LL Cool J, DJ Khaled and Fat Joe. The latter would eventually team up with him to create “Sunshine (The Light)” a single that arrived earlier this year. The release contributed to Amorphous’ unique artistry and knack for music-making.

Openly gay, the Philadelphia-bred artist has spent nearly his entire life as a creative. In Apple Music’s new short film Amorphous dissects his life as a youngster and shares the musical influences that have shaped him into who he is today. He also details how he channeled his creative energy into music and film after being outed in 7th grade.

As for the importance of being named Apple’s Up Next Artist, he understands this is a moment of representation for him and others. “Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed of being in a position where I’d be fortunate enough to not only share my talents with the world but inspire others from a multitude of generations.” He adds, “I want to continue the work that has been paved before me and by my producer peers beside me.”
