The trade officially ends the relationship between Irving and James, which lasted three seasons, and, in 2016, ended with the two stars bringing Cleveland its first championship. From the outside, the relationship seemed like it was strong, but apparently that wasn’t the case. In July, Irving asked ownership to trade him, a request that got leaked to the media soon after.
Things became more dicey when, earlier this month, a video of Irving laughing as Golden State Warriors rival Stephen Curry was seen mocking James.

It was clear that the Cavs couldn’t start the season with Irving on the team. Irving hasn’t publicly talked about the trade, but LeBron sent out a farewell on his Twitter page:
LeBron has good reason to be positive; most people think that this was a fleece for the Cavs.
