At the NFL's owners' meetings in Irving, Texas, the league's commissioner effectively shut down any hopes for Colin Kaepernick's return.

It seems like we've seen the last of Colin Kaepernick in the National Football League.

On Wednesday morning, reporters asked Roger Goodell about Kaepernick's recent workout at Charles Drew High School in Atlanta. The NFL originally invited him to work out as a private event at the Atlanta Falcons' headquarters in Flowery Branch. Upon realizing the event would not be open to the media, Kaepernick changed the location. At least six NFL scouts still attended the event.

"This was ... about creating an opportunity," Goodell replied, "which Colin's representatives came out in early October and we created that opportunity. It was a unique opportunity -- an incredible opportunity and he chose not to take it. I understand that. And we've moved on here."

The quote essentially confirms that Kaepernick's playing days--in the NFL at least--are likely over.

The Washington Redskins recently signed Jordan Veasy, a wide receiver who worked alongside Kaepernick in Atlanta, to their practice squad.
