The Golden State Warriors Visited the African American Museum Instead of the White House

The Golden State Warriors celebrated their 2017 championship by going to the museum

Last September, President Donald Trump went to Twitter and uninvited the 2017 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors to the White House. (It’s customary for the championship winning teams of the four major sports to visit the White House after they win a ring.)

Truth was they probably weren’t going to go anyway. There were rumblings from June that players weren’t going to attend because of Trump. And in September, after Charleston, star player Stephen Curry confirmed they weren’t going.

On Tuesday they made their voyage to Washington DC, to play the Washington Wizards. This most certainly would have been the date the team would have visted the White House. Instead of going, the Warriors took kids from the Washington DC area to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, as a way to celebrate their 2017 win.

The team decided to do this trip because they wanted to do something that wasn’t poltical.

After a win against the New York Knicks on Monday, Klay Thompson spoke on why they chose to go to the museum:

The White House is a great honor, but there are some other circumstances that we felt uncomfortable going…We’re not going to politicize anything. We’re going to hang out with some kids, and take them to the African American Museum, and hopefully teach them some things we learned along the way.

As of Wednesday afternoon, there have not been any tweets from Trump directed towards the team.
