No, Colin Kaepernick Hasn't Signed A Contract With the New York Jets

A tweet falsely credited ESPN's Adam Schefter with breaking the news.

The NFL offseason has been pretty uneventful at this point. On Thursday afternoon, a parody Twitter account tried to shake things up a bit.

Twitter user @SuperToughScene changed its display name and avatar to reflect ESPN's SportsCenter. Subsequently, it tweeted the New York Jets had signed Colin Kaepernick to a 1-year, $9 million deal. The account credited ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter with the false report.

With the status of training camp and the upcoming season up in the air, that doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon. The league has announced that the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft will be a three-day virtual event to raise funds to battle the spread of COVID-19.

Most recently, miscommunication between Kaepernick's team and the NFL arose regarding a supervised workout in Atlanta. Kaepernick said the league-sanctioned workout would prevent the press from taking footage of the event. In December, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell effectively said the league had moved on from Kaepernick.

Shortly afterward, social media turned its sights towards the newly-relaunched XFL. In February, league CEO Oliver Luck said a deal with Kaepernick wasn't likely, as Kaepernick would demand a much higher salary than other XFL players.

Fortunately for fans, the elusive Kaepernick recently announced he'll be releasing a memoir and audiobook sometime in the near future.
