UPDATE: White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Jemele Hill's comments directed toward Donald Trump were a "fireable offense."

"I think that’s one of the more outrageous comments that anyone can make," Sanders said Wednesday during a press briefing, "and certainly something that I think is a fireable offense by ESPN."

However, the National Association of Black Journalists spoke out against Sanders' remarks, with the organization saying that it "supports Hill's First Amendment rights on all matters of discussion," and that her comments "do not impinge on her duties as a host and commentator."

A day after ESPN SportsCenter host Jemele Hill called President Donald Trump a white supremacist on Twitter, the network released a statement condemning the veteran journalist's comments.

In the statement, ESPN called her actions "inappropriate" and not a representation of the network:

However...the question must be asked: was Hill's comments actually inappropriate? Here's what she tweeted yesterday:

These are comments that a good population of the people would say is accurate. In fact, just last week Ta-Nehisi Coates published a critically acclaimed, well-argued and reported essay fleshing out the points Hill was making.

However, right wing sports personalities Clay Travis and Britt McHenry got hold of the comments and riled up those in the right in a string of tweets:

It seems that ESPN's statement is more of a response to those on the right who were upset about Hill's comment.
