Exiled NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick will the be the face of Nike’s Just Do it 30th-anniversary campaign. Kaepernick made the announcement on his social media pages, sending out a photo of himself with the caption: “Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything:”
As ESPN reporter Darren Rovell notes, Kaepernick was sponsored by Nike already (since 2011.) So they have been paying him all along:
Also interesting: Nike and the NFL are partners; the two companies reached a new eight-year deal back in March.
Of course, the announcement got a divisive reaction, split between those who believe in his cause and those who don’t.
This comes just a couple a days after an arbitrator decided that Kap’s grievance against the NFL will go to trial. The NFL season kicks off Thursday.
