This weekend was the NFL Draft. And while most people associated with professional football had their thoughts on the draft, ex-San Francisco 49er QB Colin Kaepernick, who is a free agent, had something else on his mind.
Kaepernick spent his weekend doing community work. Kaepernick went to a parole office in Queens and donated boxes of custom suits to 100 Suits, an organization that provides free suits to men and women who are currently on the job market and who are in need.
Also on the scene was Hot 97’s Nessa, Kaepernick’s girlfriend.
In the fall, after spending weeks of the NFL season kneeling during the national anthem, Kap announced that he was donating one million dollars to various charities over the next 10 months. So far, he’s kept his word, donating countless boxes of sneakers, 50k to Meals on Wheels, $25k to the Black Youth Project 100, and more. (The Undefeated has been keeping track of how much he’s donated.)
It’s heartening to see that Kaepernick — who seems like he’s getting blackballed — is still committed to helping marginalized communities.
