Another week, another mountain of malevolence and melodics to unpack. The former, disguised as an anonymous New York Times op-ed from “the resistance within” a criminal presidential administration; the latter, a direct product of persistent external forces mounting against it by the damn day.

It’s not all knockoff mutiny, though. Some of the week’s most subversive sentiments arrived by way of release day ritual. Luckily, The Round-Up‘s rebooted with your weekly scan of indispensable earworms.
Top of the pack, genre-destroying visionary, Yves Tumor, and his blistering out-of-the-blue opus, Safe In The Hands of Love. Chicago’s Joey Purp dropped off a brimming batch of new heat with his latest album, QUARTERTHING. And Masego‘s sophomore stunner Lady Lady arrived, no slump in sight. Then there’s the loosies, anchored by new sounds from Onyx Collective and Ezra Collective; two packs of jazz punks holding down their respective ends of the pond. But for your new wave and synth-pop proclivities, hone in on that mid-section, with Barrie’s “Michigan,” Men I Trust’s “Seven,” and The Marias’ “Clueless,” to score those final (welcomed?) moments of the scorched season. And don’t forget about that grail acoustic take of Prince‘s “17 Days,” off the upcoming Piano and a Microphone release.
