The Roots drummer on that one time he put his leg through a milk crate in front of J Dilla and Frank N Dank

Leave it to a vet like Questlove to brush off a potentially life-threatening injury as a merely "embarrassing" moment. As if a pint was a throwaway to the cumulative blood lost onstage over 25 years of leading the hardest working band in the game.

Last week, The Roots founder and rhythmic backbone revealed just how he gets into Roots Picnic mode in the first installment of a special five-part edition of The Questions, and yesterday, we learned just how integral Spike Lee and a Levi's commercial were to the establishment of The Roots as we know them. Today, we get a bit deeper into that fateful Detroit performance in the sequel with the drummer's account of sustaining a gruesome gash before taking the stage, busting through a milk crate on the way to a riser where his rig was setup. Only after J Dilla and Frank N Dank's gasps from the wings did he realize that adrenaline alone had been propping him up as blood covered the floor around him. Scary shit.
