There’s nothing better than witnessing pure greatness and Taylor Gordon, better known as “The Pocket Queen” is one not to take your eyes (or ears) off of.

One of the best things I like to do is scour the internet and apps for dope music and the people who play it. You can find me almost everywhere digging for new acts for First Look Friday or on Soundcloud trying to hear those rare, never-before-heard riffs from the latest unsigned singer or MC. It is part because what’s on the radio is not always my cup of tea and that I am a lover of discovering what the next wave is.

Which is why I am ecstatic to introduce the @Okayplayer audience to the ultra-talented, supremely-gifted and extremely otherworldly professional drummer, Taylor Gordon.
A force to be reckoned with, born-and-bred from the 504, New Orleans, Gordon was awarded a Presidential Scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston. She would go on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Music Business and further continue her pursuit at being the world’s best drumming sensation. Since then, she’s built quite the résumé for herself, performing on the stage with Robert Glasper, Stevie Wonder, and Musiq Soulchild to name a few.

Hell, with all of this “cultural appropriation” talk going on, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Taylor was a part of the Super Bowl 50 performance with Beyoncé and Bruno Mars.

With a pretty popping YouTube channel since 2007, Gordon brought her electric playing style to Instagram where she’s amassed almost 80k followers and rakes in hundreds of thousands of views per video. It is there where I fell in love with Taylor Gordon and her drumming abilities. Earning the very appropriate name of “The Pocket Queen,” Taylor Gordon knows how to find that right pocket, that perfect position to hit The One on point and get everyone’s toes to tapping and hips a-shaking.

With that said, I’d like to share with you some of Taylor Gordon’s favorite slaps, covers and performances.
