Zoe Kravitz Cast as Catwoman in 'The Batman'

The Big Little Lies actress will star alongside Robert Pattinson.

Zoe Kravitz has landed the role of Catwoman in the highly anticipated film The Batman set to be directed by Matt Reeves. The Hollywood Reporter announced the casting earlier today, according to a previous report Kravitz will play her role alongside Robert Pattinson who will play the Dark Knight.

The Big Little Lies star was selected after a "rigorous testing process." Additional actresses up for the role included Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska, Eiza Gonzalez and Kravitz who each read with Pattinson. According to numerous sources, the testing process took place the first week of October. Jeffrey Wright is reportedly on board to play Commissioner Jim Gordon in the forthcoming movie.

Throughout time, Catwoman has been Batman's foe and love interest who also happens to be a burglar. On the '60s Batman television show, the role was played by Julie Newman, Lee Meriwether and the late Eartha Kitt. Michelle Pfeiffer also previously portrayed the character in 1992's Batman Returns, while Halle Berry took the role in 2004's Catwoman. The Dark Knight Rises saw Anne Hathaway alongside Christian Bale.

Kravitz has played significant roles in Harry Potter spinoff films Fantastic Beasts and The Divergent Series: Allegiant. Her role in Big Little Lies as Bonnie Carlson has also garnered critical acclaim.
