Matt Lauer hosted The Today Show for almost 20 years

Longtime anchor Matt Lauer has been fired from NBC over sexual harassment allegations. The announcement was madeonWednesday morning in a memo from NBC President Andrew Lack.

In the memo, Lack wrote:

On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace by Matt Lauer...While it is the first complaint about his behavior in the over 20 years hes been at NBC News, we were also presented with reason to believe this may not have been an isolated incident.

The Today Show, whichLauer has co-anchored since 1998, went live at 7:00 am on Wednesday. At the top of the show, co-anchor Savannah Guthrie announced the news in a emotional monologue:

Laueris the second major news figure to be fired over sexual harassment allegations. Last week Charlie Rose was fired over multiple sexual harassment complaints.
