The Democratic candidate shared a video of himself listening to The Roots before he took the stage for the Democratic debate.

Last night, the first night of CNN's Democratic debate took place.

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, Montana governor Steve Bullock, former Maryland congressman John Delaney, former Texas congressman Beto O'Rourke, former Colorado governor John Hickenlooper, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan, author and activist Marianne Williamson, and Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg all spoke during the debate, discussing everything from health insurance to "Medicare For All."

Buttigieg had some notable awkward moments (like when he said, "The racial divide lives in me") but was still praised and even listed by CNN as one of the debate winners for having a clear message. USA Today also called Buttigieg a debate winner for highlighting how his age (37) could be beneficial for the direction of the country, as well as speaking on racism and Donald Trump's problematic racial rhetoric.

Well, if you've been wondering how Buttigieg gets into the zone for his debates, it's apparently The Roots.

Before the Democratic candidate took to the stage, he shared a video of himself on Twitter listening to The Roots' "My Shot (Rise Up Remix)" from The Hamilton Mixtape released in 2016. Buttigieg can be seen nodding his head to the track before he says, "Getting in the zone."

"My Shot" also features Busta Rhymes, Joell Ortiz, and Nate Ruess.

Some people were supportive of Buttigieg's song choice.

However, if this what Buttigieg listens to to get in the zone, why isn't it also on his Spotify playlist? Maybe he just got hip to the song.
