It has been years and years of false starts, director abdications and in-house fighting, but the Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez On Me, is finally off the ground and soaring. As today marks the legendary artist + activist’s 45th birthday, a teaser for the film was posted to Instagram early Thursday morning to celebrate the impending project’s release.

Directed by Benny Boom and starring Demetrius Shipp Jr. as Tupac Shakur, the tease holds a lot of promise that this film will not only influence a new generation of hip-hop fans, but also reignite the investigation behind his murder. Upon getting a full look at Shipp as ‘Pac, it is clear that casting got it right by giving him the role as the son of a Black Panther, Throughout the clip, Danai Gurira (EclipsedThe Walking Dead) speaks to her child about the road ahead, as only the late Afeni Shakur could do.

Glimpses of other major cast members such as Dominic L. Santana as Marion “Suge” Knight and Maino as Walter “King Tut” Johnson are littered throughout. As we’ve documented, it has been an arduous journey to get to this point, but with All Eyez On Me biopic finally a reality, the film (whose rights reverted back to the ‘Pac estate last year) looks like it will be a hit amongst those who loved the Makavelian rap star. Despite the turmoil during production, the lawsuits and numerous director changes — All Eyez On Me is slated for a November 11th release, which is just a few months after the 20th anniversary of ‘Pac’s murder in Las Vegas.
