“Everybody’s got a little light under the sun.”
Yesterday KCRW premiered the buoyant and clever new track from Thundercat “Bus In These Streets,” presumably off his upcoming third studio album, promised to arrive by year’s end by his BRAINFEEDER label head and longtime collaborator, Flying Lotus. Later that night we learned that BRAINFEEDER landed a legendary new member to the team with the announcement of George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic‘s signing on for their next album, a follow-up to 2014’s First Ya Gotta Shake The Gate.
Today they’ve shared a clip of Thundercat sitting in with his new labelmate for a live and direct rendition of the P-Funk classic, “Flashlight,” captured in pristine quality for your eyes and ears in session at KCRW studios. The announcement and subsequent performance arrive ahead of BRAINFEEDER’s Hollywood Bowl showcase later this month where Thundercat, FlyLo, Shabazz Palaces (all collaborators on the 2015 Adult Swim single, “The Lavishments Of Light Looking”) are all slated to perform. Watch as Thundercat provides his warbled thump on a live treatment of “Flashlight” below and cop your tickets for the showcase via Ticketmaster today. Keep your eyes on us for BRAINFEEDER’s next transmission.
