Watch President Obama Surprise a Tearful Joe Biden With The Nation's Highest Civilian Honor

Just in case you haven't already shed your share of tears over President Obama's final days in office, today POTUS surprised Vice President Joe Biden with the nation's highest civilian honor. At a ceremony this afternoon, Obama awarded Biden the Presidential Medal of Freedom With Distinction, adding a level of veneration, an honor only Pope John Paul II, President Ronald Reagan and General Colin Powell have received.

Obama praised his former opponent for the Democratic nomination as "the best vice president America's ever had," claiming, "to know Joe Biden is to know love without pretense, service without self-regard, and to live life fully" before presenting a visibly-stunned Biden with the honor. The duo's friendship is the stuff of legend at this point, inspiring memes and real-life relationships alike.

Watch President Obama genuinely surprise a tearful Joe Biden with this rare honor in the video below. Cherish these days, folks. This kind of grace and gratitude will be hard to come by over the next four years. Unless, of course, Biden himself decides to actually run in 2020.  Jump back to watch the President's farewell address.
