Video: Tanya Auclair "Gabriel" Live
I’m personally new to Tanya Auclair but she has been on the Okayafrica map for a minute with her one-woman army approach to music, creating a unique sound with only a few handheld instruments, tape loops and her own voice. On her latest composition she applies that DIY approach to Roy Davis Jr/Peven Everett‘s Chicago house hymn “Gabriel.” Apparently this rendition is extra, extra mindblowing to those who were “there on the right dancefloor in 1997” to experience the original. I wasn’t, but I don’t think any experience is necessary to appreciate the genius of this performance. Listen to her last release Thrum at OKA and watch out for a new EP slated to drop June 13th.
