The man who fired the gun was finally arrested this past Saturday.

During the "Unite the Right" rally that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia, a white nationalist fired his weapon into a crowd and in the direction of a black man who had a makeshift flamethrower. As a video from the ACLU of Virginia shows (via the New York Times), the perpetrator can be seen wearing a bulletproof vest and shooting a single shot at the ground, in the direction of Corey Long, the man who had made the improvised torch (and who is featured in this viral photo that came from the protests against the "Unite the Rally").

The Times also writes:

Officials have insisted that no 'stand down' order was issued, and a state police spokeswoman said troopers did not hear the shot. But many people suspect the inaction was deliberate, because just a month earlier, the police were heavily criticized for responding harshly at a Ku Klux Klan rally where anti-Klan protesters were sprayed with tear gas and arrested.

Ultimately, a man by the name of Richard Wilson Preston was arrested for firing the weapon, according to the Daily Progress. The 52-year-old was arrested this past Saturday and is currently in custody at the Baltimore County Detention Center in Towson, Maryland.

Other arrests have also been happening, including the arrest of 18-year-old Daniel Borden, one of the men who viciously attacked 20-year-old Deandre Harris. Borden was arrested Friday and charged with malicious wounding for that incident. Alex Michael Ramos, 33, is also facing the same charge in Harris' attack but he is not in custody and is currently wanted by the Charlottesville police.
