Van Hunt Pays Tribute To His Heroes w/ Quietly-Released 'Free Association' EP

Still riding high off the release of his comeback project The Fun Rises, The Fun Sets, Van Hunthas offered a little sonic companion piece to continue the soul-smothered journey. The free, four-track Free Association EP finds Canton, OH torchbearer blending and mending worlds of music (reimagining Stevie Wonder's tribute to Duke Ellington as a slow-churning, slightly-psychedelic gem,) tipping his hat and mighty six-string to the giants in a free-form compilation of freshly dug-up cuts from what we can only imagine to be an endless vault of stored treasures. He even laces a track with some Richard Pryor lines, cementing the notion that musical inspiration isn't always derived from the strictly musical, though Pryor's musings can easily be taken as both rhythmic and melodic in the most primal of ways.

For those yearning for a Fun Rises follow-up, this here's the perfect chaser. Hit the link below to stream and download Van Hun's priceless Free Association EP. Revisit his The Fun Rises, The Fun Sets LP and hold tight for the next transmission. It'll sho' 'nuff be a funky one.
