T.I. to Receive First Ever ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award

Big things.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) will be hosting its 32nd Annual Rhythm & Soul Awards June 20th in Los Angeles.

The organization will be debuting its inaugural ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award and T.I. has been announced as the first recipient. The award will be given to ASCAP songwriters and artists who have had a paramount influence on music and culture.

“T.I. has conquered the worlds of music, TV and film, helping to popularize a new sub-genre of music in the process,” ” ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams said in a press release. “His significant contributions to hip-hop music, support for other artists through his record label, philanthropy, community activism and memorable onscreen roles have had a profound impact on today’s music and culture.”

Also, for its 60th anniversary, Motown Records will be presented with the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award, given to those who've made a major impact within the music genre of Rhythm and Soul.
