Thundercat Shares New Song w/ Mono/Poly

Ladies + germs, gather around this funky fire as we are ecstatic to announce that Thundercat will release his third full-length studio album on Feb. 24 via Brainfeeder. Yes, you read that correctly, the Grammy-winning singer / superhuman bassist is unleashing, Drunk, a 23-track sonic adventure that promises to take listeners into the “often hilarious, sometimes dark mind” of the 32-year-old genius multi-instrumentalist.

Joining him on this epic journey are Kendrick LamarPharrellWiz KhalifaKamasi Washington and Flying Lotus. To commemorate the reveal, Thundercat is also letting go the first loosie from the project, a ballad called “Show You The Way,” which by the looks of it will be played during hood proms, park jams and red light special parties. Featuring two of Thundercat’s musical heroes—Michael McDonald Kenny Loggins—the song comes after mentioning his love for the latter and performing with the former last September.

“These are [the] guys that I’ve listened to and where I felt that I’ve learned that honesty in the music,” Thundercat told the Red Bull Music Academy Daily. “Kenny Loggins is one of my favorite songwriters.” In fact, according to Thundercat, Loggins was the one who suggested to add the “I Keep Forgettin'” star to the track. “I think one of the most beautiful moments of it was realizing how amazing Michael McDonald was. He would go through so many ideas and have so much to offer. To him, the song is meant to be both humorous and serious, saying, “[“Show You The Way”] is about going down the rabbit hole, taking you to another place … The experience that I’ve had growing up with friends and people that I’ve been around where it’s inviting them into where I come from emotionally.”
