Brooklyn’s own hip-hop super-duo, The Underachievers, have consistently gone over-and-above in their short career. After forming in 2011, Issa Gold and AK quickly made a name for themselves in-and-around Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York. Their success on the road and in front of crowds landed them a deal with Flying Lotus‘ Brainfeeder record label in 2012. From there, their psychadelic raps earned them a cult following once Indigoism and Lords of Flatbush dropped to critical acclaim.

These ‘Beast Coast’ MCs have accomplished a lot more than most their age, so it is only fitting that they get the red carpet treatment for their second official album, Evermore: The Art of Duality. After making its debut on September 25 of this year, the hip-hop tandem partnered with Billboard to drop an accompanying documentary, which followed Issa Gold and AK’s journey up to the release of the sophomore effort.

The Evermore: The Art of Duality documentary boasts cameo appearances by fellow ‘Beast Coast’ members Juice and Meechy Darko from The Flatbush Zombies, and starts off where it all began at — in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Fans and newcomers alike will witness the blue-walled basement of the house where Indigoism was recorded with producer Mark James in 2013. Ladened with tons of concert footage and never-before-seen commentary, Issa and AK lay bare their own struggles with rap and the industry along the way.

“I think all the depression I experienced on drugs is what helps me make music,” he says, opening up about his battles with addiction to prescription pills and cocaine. “It was like a training course for me to be able to know what was necessary to speak to the people now.” With Evermore serving the people as the fourth official project in two-and-a-half years, The Underachievers clearly are anything but that.
