Tank and the Bangas, Phony PPL + More Lead The 2017 Summer

SummerStage in New York City is a prized event, appreciated by Gotham’s own who pay so much in metro card tickets, rent and utilities on a monthly basis. In short, New Yorkers deserve free entertainment at the least!

With that said, the lineup for the 2017 edition of SummerStage has just been announced, including shows featuring George ClintonLaura MvulaTaylor McFerrin and countless others across all five boroughs. From Central Park to Von King to Corporal Thompson Park, New Yorkers and its visitors will have a chance to see what’s happening from the Boogie Down to Bed-Stuy and all parts in between.

More than 100 shows in 16 parks will make this summer one for the history books. Some choice cuts start off with R&B icon Mavis Staples starting things off at Central Park on June 3rd to master funkateer George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic performing at Flushing Meadows—Corona Park on June 11. Local hip-hop legends KRS-One (June 25), Slick Rick (July 7), Capone-N-Noreaga (July 16), MC Lyte (July 30) and Jim Jones of Diplomats fame (Aug. 19) are just a few who will be representing the hometown with live performances.

For the jazz and soul lovers, Robert Glasper will play Central Park on June 25 as part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival, while godfather of Ethiopian jazz Mulatu Astatke will take over the area on Aug. 20. Bilal, who is gearing up to go on tour, will be performing at Marcus Garvey Park on Aug. 16, as our First Look Friday alum Khalid will be at East River Park on Aug. 12.

Anyone willing to spend some change to see something awesome can attend the ticketed Central Park SummerStage show, which features the talents of Elvis CostelloRegina Spektor and more. Everything kicks off on June 3, so act now, get their early and have a blast!
