SZA's Long-Anticipated 'CTRL' Album Is Delayed
SZA? SZA? SZA?
Sad news, SZA fans… the breakout TDE singer’s long-anticipated project, CTRL, has been delayed with no word on when it will actually come out. Her rollout signified that there was movement on CTRL after publicly having a tiff with her bosses at Top Dawg Entertainment. “I actually quit,” she told her 274K followers on Twitter back in October last year. “@IAmStillPunch can release my album if he ever feels like it — y’all be blessed.”
Things seemed ironed out as SZA went on to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and was the main subject in a Billboard interview. In that same piece, it was revealed that her album, CTRL, would be out on Feb. 3, but it turns out that that will not be the case. With little-to-no album-based promo, no tweets from SZA since Jan. 30 + no available links to any streaming services, iTunes or anywhere — it seems that we are back at square one with CTRL altogether.
DJBooth, in an attempt to get to the bottom of what’s going on, reached out to TDE, who told them, “We never said that [it would be out on February 3]… If it doesn’t come directly from TDE then [it] isn’t official. [It’s] coming soon, very soon,” they told the hip-hop publication.
This bait-and-switch mixed in with a denial like that is pretty odd, but not out of the realm of reality when it comes to TDE. From Ab-Soul‘s These Days project woes with the label heads to leaking To Pimp A Butterfly before retail could put it out — CTRL adds itself to another list of misses with hits on them that, unfortunately, delay the audiophiles from witnessing the greatness in TDE’s stable.
For now, just check out the sultry siren sing one of my favorites, “Babylon”.
